In 2012-2013, when several children lived in Oselya with their parents, the writer and volunteer of “Oselya” Halyna Vdovychenko organized a children’s theater. In the spring of 2012, she staged a show with the children from”Oselya” based on her book “Myshko’s mice”. The children of the companions and volunteers were the actors. Oksana Prokhorets, the actress of the Image-theater “Madame Kurazh” helped to organize the rehearsals. The performance was shown during the Children’s Book Forum.
The performance was such a success that next year “Oselya” was invited to make a new performance. So in May 2013, the children’s theater of the community “Emmaus-Oselya” led by Halyna Vdovychenko showed a new performance based on her book “The League of Odd Socks.” Companions and volunteers Oselya, played the roles as well as the author of the book herself and the actor of the Image-theater “Madame Kurazh” Mykola Mazepa.
“I remembered the motto “Emmaus-Oselya”: “There are no unnecessary things and unnecessary people!” and used it in the play, because I was surprised how consonant the rules of Oselya community are with contents of the book about odd socks. It is also about a kind of mutual help community. Its heroes are not needed by anyone. Their place is in the garbage, but they do not want to accept it, and create a league, determine the common rules of their lives, and at some point even involve a pair of good socks,”- said Halyna Vdovychenko.
Children who played in those plays are grown-ups now. Theatrical experiments gave them a lot: confidence, faith in themselves.
