Like other Emmaus communities around the world, Oselya also collects used goods like furniture, clothes, dishes, books and other household items. Every day, two trucks go around the city and pick up goods from people’s homes. They can also bring their items to our locations in Lviv and Vynnyky cities. In November 2013, we installed containers in the city to collect clothing, footwear, and books. Today there are 31 of them in different parts of the city. “Oselya” was the first organization that started the practice of clothing containers in Ukraine. By such activity we try to make sure that goods not needed by some people, can serve someone else, and not be thrown into a trash. The ecological component of this activity is very important. The companions and volunteers sort collected items, repair if needed, and sell in charity stores or give to the needy, homeless people in the Olesya Sanotska support center. The bad clothing we sell to be recycled. Every year we hand over several hundred tons of clothing, which in other circumstances could be piled up in landfills. So Oselya does a great environmental work in the city, and solves social problems at the same time.
