In 2010, Oselya received a lease from the Lviv City Council in Lviv on the Uhorska str, 2 to create a social hostel for homeless people and orphans there. The agreement is signed for a period of 15 years. In the summer of 2011, the first residents moved to the hostel. Today there are 20 residents living there.

There was a great need to open such hostel because many people after staying in the community for some time, are ready for independent living, but they can’t afford renting an apartment at regular prices. This is especially true for those who do not have a good education or are not specialists, and therefore work on low-paid jobs.Many families or single mothers who do not have the experience of street life, but who are in dire financial situation, can not afford to pay the rent. They do not need to undergo the process of resocialization in the Community because they have never been homeless, but if at some point they do not receive support, they may become homeless. This also applies to adult orphans, or people who have been victims of machinations with real estate. Therefore, for a long time Oselya held talks with the authorities about the need for social housing in our city.

In April 2010, our partners from the organization “Emmaus Solidarite” invited a delegation from Lviv to the city of Paris to familiarize the employees of the municipality with the peculiarities of the functioning of social hostels and to discuss the opening of a social hostel in Lviv. Emmaus Solidarite helped develop a hostel project. In 2011, we received financial support from the Swiss communities of “Emmaus” for the reconstruction of the premises that were rented to Oselya for the establishment of a social hostel. In the premises we installed and connected the heating, water supply, installed a new electrical network, reconstructed the rooms, reconstructed the basement. The project of social hostel was also supported by the International Renaissance Foundation, the East Europe Foundation, the “Emaus-Aland” from Finland.

In order to cover some expenses of the social hostel, we run Workshop of good deeds “Emmaus – Oselya” there.
